This August, Frank Stedman will walk 200 miles from our HMP Styal HQ in Cheshire, to our HMP Brixton HQ in South London to raise funds for our charity and awareness of how National Prison Radio supports prisoners across England and Wales.
Starting the 27th August, he’ll be walking roughly 25 miles a day, sleeping wherever he can, and aiming to complete the journey in 10 days.
Frank hopes that by taking on such a huge challenge, he can shine a light on the powerful impact of our work – and inspire others to donate in support of it.
You can learn more about Frank’s story and reasoning for this walk here.
You can track Frank’s journey and updates below:
Day 1: HMP Styal – Blackshaw Moor
Day 1 saw Frank set off in the early hours of Wednesday morning from HMP Styal with the Prison Radio Association’s producer Faye Dunn and CEO Phil Maguire.
Frank and co completed a whopping 23 miles! Only 177 to go…
Day 2: Blackshaw Moor – Scropton
Day 2 saw Frank set off in the early hours once again, and this time he covered an incredible 25 miles.
He ended up in Scropton, Derbyshire, sleeping under the stars with a few rats to keep him company…
152 miles to go Frank, you’ve got this!
Day 3: Scropton – Sibson
Day 3 saw Frank complete another incredible feat – 23 miles from the Church in Scropton, Derbyshire to the village of Sibson, Nuneaton.
The first 10-13 miles were great, and then the rest of the miles was Frank walking on the hard shoulder, and twisting his ankle, beaming hot sun and yesterday’s clothing still on.
Legs hurting, knees hurting, shoulders hurting, but he soldiers on… tomorrow onto Rugby!
Day 4: Sibson – Rugby
23 miles was on the cards for Frank today and he completed 24! Go Frank, go!
He was joined by his brother which made the walk a lot easier, but turned up to a hotel room that had been broken into and trashed!
He eventually got a peaceful kip in another hotel, ready for another 21 miles tomorrow!
Day 5: Rugby – Towcester
Frank hit’s the half way milestone – 100 miles done, 100 miles to go!
Frank’s family surprised him during his dinner time at Mcdonalds – a great boost and reminder to keep going.
Day 6: Towcester – Milton Keynes
Today was Frank’s ‘rest day’ – only 12 miles on the agenda today!
Frank was joined by ITV Grenada in Towcester to tell them all about his incredible journey!
Day 7: Milton Keynes – Luton
Frank hit 21 miles today and along the way had an interview with BBC Radio 3 Counties, with the plus of a free tea from Starbucks!
Not long to go now for Frank – he’s almost there!
Day 8: Luton – Hoddesdon
21 miles again today on Frank’s tick list. At the end of his walk he was met with a carbonara and garlic bread when he eventually got to his sisters house in Hoddesdon.
SO close to the finish line now Frank!
Day 9: Hoddesdon – Lime House
After Frank filled up on Carbonara, he was off once again!
He met up with our Deputy Andrew to keep him company for a few miles of the way.
21 miles and he’s now in London and on the home stretch! Only 7 miles to go. Basically there now Frank!
Day 10: Lime House – HMP Brixton
HE’S DONE IT!
200 miles walked across the county from HMP Styal to HMP Brixton, 10 days to complete. Incredible.
We are SO proud of you Frank!!!
